David Blanchard

DavidOB is David Blanchard
Artist, Photographer.

Lifelong photographer, semi-serious many times, but stymied by the requirements of keeping a chemical darkroom alive. A colored pencil artist before being captivated by the power of digital photography and the digital darkroom. Photography provides the impetus to go out into the world to really see it. I make images that express something I felt about that reality, something for you to see and perhaps own. All photography is grounded in reality, but I’m not a photo-journalist so if you find ugliness in my work, its only skin deep. Look again.

I have a peculiar weakness for “field cars”, you know, those vehicles that have ceased to function as vehicles and have been left to spend their days slowly becoming part of nature. I don’t think of them as the eyesores their neighbors may, I think of them as once noble steeds put out to pasture. Beyond that, I find joy in the harmonious blending (and occasionally the collision) of nature and the mark of man.

Sometimes to discover interesting subjects, situations, and light, I just get on my motorcycle and ride around looking for them. Sometimes the search is more focused. The mountains and coast in and around northern California are prime search areas. Wherever I travel I look for compelling images to bring back.
