Point Lobos Seaweed by Gilbert DraperPhotography has been an important part of my creative expression since age 11. In 1975 I took in the Ansel Adams Workshop in Yosemite. My photography and my life changed during those 10 days. Our instructors were Ansel Adams, Morley Baer, Arnold Newman, Philip Hyde, Ralph Putzker, Ted Orland, Roger Minick, and Dore Bothwell. Then I had weekly classes with Ruth Bernhardt in San Francisco and attended workshops with Brett Weston, Al Webber and spent time with Wyn Bulloch. I remember being with these great photographers and teachers as if it happened yesterday and am thankful for all they so unselfishly gave me.

I led meetings and workshops and presented multi image shows to Sierra Club groups and at the Palo Alto Cultural Center.

In 1999 I began working exclusively in the digital realm doing all my own printing with Epson Giclee printers (P2200, 2400 and Pro 7600) using pigmented inks that are archival 80–100+ years. I use Canon digital camera equipment.

Sunflowers by Gilbert DraperOver the years I occasionally showed my prints. I was more interested in making photographs than in the business of showing and selling. Then at my business Draper’s Music Center in Palo Alto, CA, I hung my photos on the walls. My customers response was so gratifying that after retiring in March 2005, I began photographing full time. I enjoy sharing my photographs with people who see the beauty in what I try to represent.
