Born and raised in the US, I have lived 28 years in Germany before moving back to
California in 1999. Ever since childhood, I have been fascinated by the creativity and art of all cultures. Over the years, I have done many different arts and crafts: Silk painting, watercolors, acrylics, quilting, crocheting, wreath binding, window glass art, mosaics, decoupage, Ukrainian egg painting, and so much more. I have renovated many pieces of antique furniture and find painting my walls in new exciting colors very relaxing and mood-enhancing. Creativity is my life; I’m always on a quest.
Europe has inspired me with all its beauty, as does California. I am breath-taken by its nature. I adore colors and decorating, which
makes me the interior decorator advisor of my friends and family. The street I live on has nicknamed me “Martha Stewart of Wilkinson Ave.”. Now that my kids are teenagers, I finally find more time (if still little) to satisfy my senses. Approximately 5 years ago, I started silk painting again, on and off, as time allowed. Family and friends encouraged me to go out in the open, so I attended my first arts and crafts show in 2005. Some of my art has also sold in Europe. In 2007, I was honored to receive an “Award of Merit” for the silk scarf “Black and White” by the Alliance of Visual Artists, Santa Clara, at the AVArtFest 2007 at the Triton Museum.
Silk is a wonderful media. Painting on silk is unpredictable, the colors flow as they please. Mistakes happen easily, but this is exactly what makes silk so exciting. You never know from the beginning what the piece will look like in the end. There are many different techniques used, similar as with watercolors. Each piece is unique, drawn freehand and
then hand painted with colors I usually mix to achieve a certain tone. The painted silk can be used in many ways and is hand washable. In my work, I also try to combine textile art with silk painting, as in the wall hanging “Forest on Fire” which includes both silk painting and quilting.
